Teaching focus - creative and cultural practice

The Writing and Cultural Studies program area places great emphasis on creativity, on conducting research into creative pedagogies and examining new developments in creativity, writing and cultural practice. We encourage non-traditional approaches to research and experimental approaches to essay and fiction.

Students have responded enthusiastically to the Area's blend of teaching, research and creative practice, particularly the ways in which a cross-fertilization of creative ideas and critical theory provide them with a unique opportunity to develop their own projects.

The approach to learning, teaching and research situates creative practice at the heart of critical and theoretical exploration. This approach incorporates a wide field of theoretical and practice-based studies, including fiction, non-fiction, writing for screen, poetry, popular cultures, film, music, the written word, aesthetics and poetics, on-line media, international and Indigenous studies.
