David Berridge

Cranbrook Careers
Counsellor and UTS
Journalism graduate
David Berridge

Although deciding early on that the hectic, competitive life of a mainstream Sydney news reporter was not for him, David says his study of Journalism has improved and refined his overall writing style.

It has also been beneficial for his current role as Cranbrook School Careers Counsellor. Berridge is in charge of ensuring every boy at Cranbrook receives information on all the possible career options available, and this task requires the clear, succinct communication of a journalist. He believes that in our increasingly globalised, cluttered environment, career information needs to be delivered to high school students and their parents in concise, accessible, easily-absorbed chunks.

Every university plays their part in providing students with information on their tertiary options, but David says UTS does this particularly well as the clarity of our website makes it easy for prospective students to find our about UTS courses and subjects.

Berridge commends our site for being clear and user-friendly, without the infiltration of unnecessary university lingo. He describes the UTS site as a "saviour in careers education" saying "high school students and careers educators want information in easy-to-digest chunks and UTS' website provides it in exactly that format."

As Cranbrook Careers Counsellor, David finds satisfaction in helping students to narrow down their career options whilst also providing inspiration and direction for life after school.

Although he says the transition to Cranbrook was a major change from his own background, Berridge believes all students have the same dreams of being successful, enjoying life and gaining a worthwhile education.
